The DAMA Technopole in Bologna is a key part of the Italian Data Valley, a fundamental pillar of Italy’s innovation ecosystem. With over 140,000 square meters of cutting-edge research infrastructures, DAMA is home to CINECA’s Leonardo Supercomputer, one of the top ten fastest supercomputers in the world, and the newly established AI Factory, a European flagship for AI-driven innovation.
DAMA is at the forefront of Quantum Computing, supporting the integration of quantum processors (QPUs) with supercomputers. It has been selected as a hosting site for one of EuroHPC’s six quantum computers, paving the way for Europe’s quantum advancements. CINECA, a key partner, is already offering quantum emulators and hybrid HPC/QC workflows, ensuring seamless adoption of quantum technologies.
Through strategic collaborations with leading quantum companies like IQM and Pasqal, DAMA is accelerating innovation. Notably, researchers recently implemented a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm on Pasqal’s Fresnel quantum processor, solving complex cellular network optimization problems with remarkable noise resilience—demonstrating the potential of neutral-atom quantum computing.
DAMA is also the headquarters of IT4LIA AI Factory, one of the first European AI Factories selected by the European Commission. This initiative will host a next-generation AI-optimized supercomputer to revolutionize industries such as climate science, cybersecurity, manufacturing, and logistics.
